New year, new post. (2010/01/04)
Well here we go, first post of 2010.
Keeping it nice and simple for this one. Just a picture of a christmas present I recieved:

So much to do, so little time! (2009/11/24)
Well, this has been an interesting few weeks.
Wondering why I haven't posted? Well, I've been building this:

Yep, there she is! MakerBot 277 "Elivra".
From when it arrived it took me three days to build, then the rest of the week (I got picked up from the depot on a Monday) to get working. Here is possibly the geekiest thing I've printed so far:

Next up, RepRap!
Elvira (2009/11/03)
So, I've got the MakerBot page all setup, over here under 3D Printing.
It's not long now!
Status: Arrived Abroad
Your item arrived in GREAT BRITAIN at 3:22 PM on November 3, 2009.
What is a prime, self number, and called Elvira? (2009/11/02)
The answer to this question was found here:
http://http://wiki.makerbot.com/lineage
MakerBot Lineage
000277 - Stewart Starbuck
Elvira the MakerBot. Sounds alright to me.

How much?! (2009/10/31)
This came a few days ago, but only just scanned it in now:

Isn't that nice. £11.03 customs charge on two shirts.
What made me laugh / cry even more was when the actual packet arrived this morning:

Yep. Only £3.03 was the actual charge itself. ~Sigh~.
What's his name again? (2009/10/27)
Just seen this over at http://planet.termisoc.org
9th- Stuart's Makerbot, Hosted by spcs
Stu shows off his magical open source 3D printer. Did we mention it's magical?
Who is this Stuart? Stu? Never heard of him. Now Stewart, that's a name!
Tasty. (2009/10/24)
Day old pizza for lunch. Tasty.
There is something different about this post. (2009/10/19)

MakerBots and sad emails. (2009/10/13)
Sometimes you wake up to find nice emails. Other days, not so nice ones.
Hey Batch 8 MakerBot Operators,
We just got word from our electronics suppliers that they are going to be running late with their delivery. We had planned on shipping on or around October 18th, but we have had to move shipping day to Tuesday October 27th.
We're sorry for the inconvenience. We really want to get this batch out to you ASAP and we know it's frustrating to have to wait. We've taken measures to make sure this doesn't happen again.
In the meantime, feel free to download the software at Replicat.org and if you haven't checked out Thingiverse lately, it's overflowing with great things to make on your future MakerBot.
We also have a Google group and now would be a great time to join at http://groups.google.com/group/makerbot.
Thanks for your patience.

TermiSoc, week 2 (2009/10/12)
So much fun. I mean, it's Rock Band, it has to be good, right? ¬_¬
Yeah, lots of people milling around, not really getting much done. RB is on the projector. And I'm here (Yes, I'm posting this from the meeting), in my steampunk gear, not doing much either.
Still, next week things get started for real, and we have Plan 9 (the film) on it's way this week, so that's all good.
£3 well spent? We shall see.
Is that a planet I see over there? (2009/10/10)
Looks like the folks over at TermiSoc Have added this blog to their planet. (Well, I did ask them nicely.)
That means I might have some people like, reading this blog now. Huzzah!
Zazzle, Win7 and Bunnies. (2009/10/10)
Plan 9 user + Win7 launch party = Trip to Zazzle
It's been a while. (2009/10/09)
Oh dear, not a great start. Only had this site up a week or so and I've given up posting to it.
So where are we now? Well, week 2 of uni has now finished, and we have already been given some crazy courswork. And yes, it's for media.
Part of the coursework (which is group based) requires a blog. As I just so happen to have this here server, I'm hosting it. You can find it over here: idat207.hatcaneandtypewriter.co.uk
My absinthe arrived last week, and here is what I got:
- Pernod - Aux Extraits de Plantes d' Absinthe (68% vol.)
- Sebor Absinth (55% vol.)
I also picked up the Sebor Absinth Sipping Pipe. I'll post pictures shortly.
Update:
Here is a picture!

Uni: Year 2 (2009/09/28)
So then, not counting the induction session last week, today was my first day back at uni for the year. It didn't go too badly either!
First off though, 9am starts on a Monday morning - not great. Even worse when it's a database lecture. Turned out it's not as bad as expected. (Last year I shall never forget... although as I was asleep for most of the lectures, that isn't hard!)
Then lots of free time, before Sys Admin lecture at 4pm. Again, that went very well. (And it's what I'm interested in anyway.) Comments were made about typewriters however, and the fact "we don't use them anymore." Next week shall be fun... oils typewriter
Ross is a rather interesting guy. Met his friend today as well, and both of them are crazy. But in a good way, so that's cool. Looks like we might even be able to get assignments out the way quickly this year with them, so that's always a bonus.
Absinthe!
Placed an order today for some more bottles, should arrive on Friday. Will post up more details then.
Wordpress sucks. (2009/09/27)
OK, I know this is the third post today, and all of them have involved wordpress.
However, for anyone wondering why I don't run wordpress here, this is one of the reasons:
21:43 <@bma> Okay, I’ve enabled a plugin that requires a spam test before registering on termisoc.org.
21:43 <+spcs> Oh yeah
21:43 <+spcs> I better register
21:44 <+spcs> Right, done.
All good so far, until:
21:52 <+spcs> NOOOOOOOOO
21:52 <+spcs> FAIL
21:52 <+spcs> THIS IS WHY WORDPRESS SUCKS
21:52 < Sayyan> What?
21:52 <@bma> /o\
21:52 <+spcs> DON'T SEND PLAIN TEXT PASSWORDS VIA EMAIL
21:53 < Sayyan> Lawl.
21:53 <@bma> SO MUCH <3.
Yeah. Wordpress sucks. (Also, CRUISE CONTROL IS COOL.)
TermiSoc, GamesSoc and Somethingelse-Soc (2009/09/27)
So, today was the Sports and Societies Fair at the university.
Although living in their IRC all last year, I was never a member of the computing society, TermiSoc. That's all changed now however, and I'm £3 less well off for it.
Next to us was the GamesSoc, who managed it seems to recruit eveyone at the TermiSoc stand. (As I live in the same house as the president of TermiSoc, I offered to help out with things.) So that's another £1 less well off. I don't know if I'm even going to go to any of their meetings, but we shall see.
Turns out that another member of TermiSoc, who I haven't know for that long (and uses Wordpress!), Ross, has a great interest in steampunk. I took my typewriter along just for him, and how did he respond? By going on ebay and bidding on one just like mine! (Although slightly later.)
I thus request all of you who follow this blog (that is, all none of you) to go and outbid him on the typewriter, which is linked here.
However, it wasn't all a competition of who had the nicest typewriter. Dispite being surrounded by clubs and societies, not one was dedicated to steampunk. All this will change however! The two of us are going to set about forming one, and we have a great name. You ready for it?
SteamSoc.
Yeah, original. Anyway, we need 20 members before the Students Union will let us form it, so we need to go on a recruitment drive. The idea is likely to fizzle out within the next week, but I've gone ahead and registered steamsoc.org anyway. (Will be a dead link for a while.)
Also Ross, I will win that typewriter manual, thank you very much.
Ross sucks. (2009/09/27)
Yeah. He uses wordpress :(
Hello World! (2009/09/25)
No Content.
(What are you supposed to put here anyway? I've done the required "Hello World!" message...)
